A little history of the ECARUCA database

Since November 2006, a new version of the database programme is available at the ECARUCA website. Both submission and query functionalities have been optimised. It is now possible to enter directly molecular cytogenetic data, especially data obtained by microarray analysis. To correctly translate the molecular data to cytogenetic bands and vice versa, the programme makes use of clone set tables that are regularly updated. Likewise, it is now possible to search on a chromosome aberration both on the cytogenetic as well as on the base pair level.

Another major improvement is the presentation of the search results. It is now possible to make tables combining more (overlapping) aberrations of interest. Just select the aberrations you are interested in and click on “show overview of clinical data” and a table will appear that lists the clinical features of each aberration and gives the totals of all selected aberrations (be sure that your computer does not suppress pop-up screens). It is also possible to exclude complex aberrations (e.g. as part of an unbalanced translocation) and mosaics from your search results. And, finally, it is also possible to search on triplications and uniparental disomy.
